The Bully Myth
What we refer to as “the bully myth”, is the erroneous idea that often surrounds how to dispel bullies. The common advice of “just stand up to the bully” is pervasive, often handed down from parent to child, but perpetuated by martial arts instructors, who are notorious for espousing ways to deal with bullies. While they may be good at martial arts, that knowledge in and of itself has little to do with pervasive bullying; maybe even nothing. Martial arts schools are businesses that very often rely heavily on the children’s market.

Hard Ready® Phase One Basic Principle
Hard Ready® Phase One Basic Principle: Everyone's Fighting Something "Our environment, the world in which we live and work, is a mirror of our attitudes and expectations." -- Earl Nightingale Ok, so let’s get this out of the way promptly: the world is not conspiring against you (or us or anyone else). Life’s daily adversities are not anomalies, and there is nothing peculiar about these struggles. In fact, these struggles, these conflicts, ARE life. Daily, daily, you will be faced with new provocations. Sometimes our challenge is simply rising to take on the day, never mind the inevitable

Close Quarters Fighting Ranked #1 Digital Training
Close Quarters fighting digital dvd "This is a fantastic video and a practical approach to bridging the gap between H2H [hand to hand] and weapons use." - Nathan L. About the DVD from Ryan Hoover This digital training video covers topics and techniques that I've been hesitant to release in the past. This course actually served as our first release of them. My concern was always that weapon use and retention training could fall into the wrong hands and do more harm than good. Ultimately, I've come to realize that may very well be

Training from “Negative”
Training from "Negative" If you’ve trained in Krav Maga, you’ve undoubtedly heard the “we train from positions of disadvantage” mantra countless times. At some point, likely all Krav Maga instructors have uttered it, and we believe that there is certainly some value in it. However, it is not (or rather should not) be THE way of training for self-protection. Think about it, if you always train your students from a position of disadvantage, i.e. negative, your students will always find themselves at negative. Without training that prioritizes the pre-contact phase (to include

What Is Modern Krav Maga™?
Modern Krav Maga™ modern: involving recent techniques, methods, or ideas: up-to-date krav maga: contact combat; a form of self-defense based on unarmed combat movements developed by the Israeli armed forces In its purest form, krav maga is a living, breathing expression of the most combat-proven techniques, tactics, and principles for dealing with interpersonal violence, without attachment to tradition for the sake of custom. In recent years, the proliferation of krav maga training organizations has resulted simultaneously in institutionalized stagnation and rapid evolution. The former iteration, stagnation, is primarily the product of long-established organizations beholden to

Why Your Self-defense Instructor is Teaching You to Die
Why Your Self-defense Instructor is Teaching You to DieNow that I have your attention, please understand, I don’t believe that your instructor wants you to die, nor do I believe that he/she is intentionally teaching you things that will get you killed. Part 3: Fit to Fight® Krav Maga
So, we recently looked at the almost meme-like existence that Krav Maga, as a system and as a term, has, through intention or derision, developed into over the years. Without delving into the history of the system, there are much more qualified people for that, let’s discuss what we believe Krav Maga should mean and should encompass, in order to live up to the hype and eliminate the negative connotations that have plagued it for so long.
