Part 2: Fit to Fight® Krav Maga

Part 2: Fit to Fight® Krav Maga

Fit To Fight® Krav Maga…the difference is REAL.

Fit to Fight® was created as a sparring system, for people daunted by the idea of sparring. As instructors and center owners around the world became exposed to the Fit to Fight® methods, there became a demand for more self defense training.

Over the years, Fit to Fight® has developed and introduced many programs to address real world violence, such as Active Killer Defense®, Edge of Reality, fireARMED®, and Hard Ready®. However, the centerpiece of the self defense programs is Fit to Fight® Krav Maga.

Fit to Fight® was co-founded by Ryan Hoover. While we place little to no emphasis on lineage, outside of one’s personal experience and pride, we recognize that many people are curious about training influences. Ryan’s background in martial arts, fighting, and fitness is vast, having trained and taught in multiple disciplines, all over the world. The system, the program, draws from Krav Maga, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, judo, boxing, and more. Over the years, Fit to Fight® has hosted seminars and instructor training sessions with world renowned coaches, shooters, and fighters, like Randy Couture, Rich Franklin (twice), Kurt Pellegrino, Shogun Rua, Shaolin Ribeiro, Shane Fazen, Bas Rutten (many times), Renato Migliaccio, Rich Dimitri, Craig Douglas, Paul Sharp, Clark Gracie, Kenny Florian, Bobby Taboada (many times), Darren Levine, Daniel Shaw (many times), Greg Nelson, Rob Pincus, Justine Kish, Zee Durham, Raul Martinez, et al. Additionally, Ryan has drawn influence from his many training sessions with Erik Paulson, Sam Sade, Marni Levine, Scott Shields, Jeff Jimmo, Scott Clawson, Luis Togno, Eli Knight, Anthony Quartapella, Matt Mescan, Jared Robinson, Ronny Huitt, Amir Perets, Kenny Johnson, and countless others. All of these people have had an influence in shaping the Fit to Fight® Krav Maga program.

Ryan was once an advisory board member for Krav Maga Worldwide, the co-author of three books for that organization, and was one of the first four instructors outside of the national training center to achieve 2nd degree black belt. Fit To Fight® has trained three current NFL head coaches, countless NFL players, pit crews for Hendrick Racing teams, French Foreign Legion units in French Guiana, US Air Force Security Forces groups at Ramstein AFB, hundreds of LEOs, and many, many more. Fit to Fight® was also instrumental in developing defensive tactics curricula for the NC Justice Academy.

Ryan has certified Krav Maga instructors in seven countries, has extensive knowledge in the Krav Maga system, its strengths and its weaknesses, and has long aspired to present Krav Maga as it was meant to be: an ever evolving fighting system, to enhance the survivability for those that need it the most.

Progressive. We are not bound by lineage, logo, or lore. At Fit to Fight® Krav Maga, evolution is ethos, not marketing. The goal is safer, healthier, better prepared students. Period.

Diverse. Fit to Fight® Krav Maga borrows from the most proven fighting systems in the world, such as Muay Thai, boxing, judo, wrestling, sambo, and jiu-jitsu, while staying true to its mission of enhancing survivability for those that need it the most. If and when the training is needed, the source, the lineage, the logo, is of little importance. A system devoted to inclusion of the best tactics and techniques, regardless of country of origin, cult of personality, politics, or name, is what Fit to Fight® Krav Maga strives to achieve, constantly.
